Machine Safeguarding Assessment

Machine Safeguarding Assessments – Machine Safeguarding Solution

Since 1971, Rockford Systems has provided a full spectrum of machine safeguarding solutions, meeting a variety of needs, time frames and cost requirements for many of the world’s leading manufacturers.

At the forefront of our managed services are Machine Safeguarding Assessments, which is the critical first step in any machine safeguarding process as outlined by ANSI B11, especially for companies deploying new, older or refurbished machinery, or those that recently relocated metal-working machines or automation cells that need safeguarding solutions and associated costs. This turnkey service takes the guesswork out of compliance to help keep operators safe, machines productive and processes online. The Machine Safeguarding Assessment deliverable is a Compliance Report and Safeguarding Project Proposal.

Experienced. Trusted. Committed.

Leveraging an experienced team of safeguarding specialists, mechanical and electrical engineers, all of whom have dedicated OSHA, ANSI and NFPA 79 standards expertise, our onsite Machine Safeguarding Assessment provides manufacturers with safeguarding peace of mind.

Using your machine list and electrical schematics and our proprietary RSXpress™ mobile inspection tool, Rockford Systems will perform a full conforming audit per OSHA 1910.212 General Requirements (a)(1), ANSI B11 Safety Standards for Metalworking, ANSI/RIA R15.06-2012 Safety Standards for Industrial Robots, and NFPA 79 to identify machinery tasks and hazards. If your company has additional specific safeguarding requirements above and beyond OSHA 1910.212 and ANSI B11.0-2015, they should be provided before the site visit and will be incorporated into the assessment.

Specifically, our safeguarding specialists will:

    • Visually inspect mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems on machines
    • Function test machines
    • Function test safety devices
    • Analyze machine hazards
    • Analyze operator tasks
    • Analyze machine tooling and uses
    • Identify safeguarding options
    • Detail the strengths and weaknesses identified in the audit findings
    • Provide hazard reduction strategies required to comply with OSHA, ANSI and NFPA 79 standards
    • Recommend standardized and customized safeguarding solutions
    • And present an economical and timely project proposal outlining an equipment compliance roadmap

The safeguarding assessment process encompasses 8 Simple Steps. Most, but not all, assessments will follow this basic process:

1 – Fill out form below to get the process started
2 – Rockford Systems will detail what information is needed for a Machine Safeguarding Assessment
3 – Discuss acceptable levels of safety your organization requires if above and beyond OSHA 1910.212 and ANSI B11 standards
4 – Rockford Systems will provide a quote to conduct the onsite Machine Safeguarding Assessment, generally within 24 hours of receipt of your information
5 – Approve (or modify) quote, schedule assessment at your facility
6 – Machine safeguarding specialists will conduct safeguarding assessment
7 – Submit additional machine data (such as electrical, pneumatic and/or hydraulic schematics and machine operator manuals) if required
8 – Upon completion of the assessment, Rockford Systems will provide Compliance Report and Safeguarding Project Proposal, discuss findings and next steps

Upon completion of the Machine Safeguarding Assessment, our team will provide a Compliance Report and Safeguarding Project Proposal that identifies where each machine is in, or not in, compliance with the above stated regulations and standards. Where not in compliance, we will suggest guarding solutions to bring the machines into compliance, along with associated costs and timeframes. We will assure a positive outcome by detailing your return on investment in operational safety.

No guesswork. No hidden fees. No surprises.

As your long-term guarding partner, Rockford Systems will validate your machine compliance over time. When your plant gets new machines or changes production processes, we will come back to identify safeguarding gaps and verify that our installed solutions are operating as intended. Why? Because we are committed to our mission to enhance the long-term health and quality of life of workers in high-risk occupations and reduce risk in the organizations that we serve.

Success in a manufacturing environment means getting the most out of every person, machine and process. Rockford Systems delivers proven capabilities and unmatched experience — that is why we are the industry’s first safeguarding choice and most trusted partner.
